Priority Freight

The box had crossed more hands than I could count.

Its corners were worn, its labels layered over older labels, and the tape carried the marks of every place it had passed through. Still, my name remained printed clearly beside the final address.

I held it longer than necessary.

“Priority” was written across the front, but I knew it meant more than shipping speed. It meant that somewhere, within a system large enough to overlook people like us, someone had decided this delivery mattered.

I signed the manifest slowly.

Not because the package was expensive, but because receiving it felt like evidence—proof that distance could be crossed, that promises could survive handling and that something intended for us could reach us intact.

The world asked for a signature.

I gave it one it could not forget.
